Sustainability is important for businesses of all sizes in all industries. Expectations from clients continue to increase and firms must act now to make sustainable changes or run the risk of losing business. Environmental and economic impacts will vary based on industry and organization size – there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Sustainability is not a quick fix, but rather a major challenge requiring ambition and dedication to make a safer, thriving future.
What is Corporate Sustainability?
Corporate sustainability is an organization’s approach and behavior aimed to create long-term value through a business strategy that focuses on the ethical, social, environmental, cultural, and economic dimensions of conducting business.
The strategies created should foster the following within an organization:
- Longevity
- Transparency
- Proper employee development
LMI launched an official Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility Program in 2020. Though we began with a solid foundation of processes and policies that we’ve built throughout the last 40 years, there were still improvement areas to focus on. Our initial plans for the year quickly changed when we moved our onsite staff to a fully remote workforce in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We spent the following few years re-evaluating our short- and long-term goals with a focus on employee education and advocacy.
Here is a glimpse into our program’s building blocks:
Goals Met
LMI significantly reduced waste in various forms by migrating to a vast majority remote workforce. As of 2024, 96.5% of LMI's staff operates remotely nationwide.
Waste Reductions Through Remote Workforce
- Energy
- Lighting
- Water
- Paper Printing
Awards
2020: LMI has been awarded a bronze medal in recognition of sustainability achievement from EcoVadis with a goal to elevate our award in the coming years.

How Do LMI Services Impact the Environment?
LMI products and services are delivered via web-based applications. The main component of the web carbon footprint comes from end-user devices. LMI developers look for efficiencies in coding to naturally contribute to lower impact on the web.
Ways We Reduce Our Web Carbon Footprint
- Proper IT equipment disposal
- Reduction of energy consumption through virtualization, cloud-based applications, and energy-efficient devices
- Screen suppliers for social and environmental impacts
Perhaps one of the most powerful ways to accelerate your business’s Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility Program is through consistent education and training for the organization and employee advocacy. LMI's focus for the next year will be on employee advocacy, philanthropy, and the development of a supplier diversity program.
